Prerequisites: A "C" average in 8th grade English is strongly recommended.

Description: The student is introduced to the Spanish language by a wide variety of speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises. An emphasis is placed on practical application of the language. A study of the cultural background of Spanish-speaking peoples and their contributions to civilization, past and present, are introduced.
Spanish II
Prerequisites: Spanish I
Level: Sophomore

Description: At this level the student reviews constantly the basic elements learned in the first year, with greater mastery of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The student continues to explore Hispanic cultures.
Spanish III
Prerequisites: Spanish II
Level: Junior
Credit: 1
Description: The aims of Spanish I and II are continued, with previous skills being reinforced and more advanced skills being developed. The student continues to practice and bring nearer to proficiency those skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The student learns how to survive in an exclusively Spanish-speaking environment.
Spanish IV
Prerequisites: Spanish III
Level: Senior

Description: The aims of Spanish I, II and III are continued, with previous skills being reinforced and mastered and more advanced skills being developed. The student continues to practice and bring nearer to proficiency those skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The student learns how to survive in an exclusively Spanish-speaking environment.
