Arthur Board of Education
Regular Meeting October 12, 2011
The regular meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Scott Daily at 7:00 p.m. in the Unit Office with the following members and administrators present: Scott Daily, Steffanie Seegmiller, Doug Kitchen, Beth Wiley, Linda Collins, Ed Miller, Monica Miller, Buck Condill, Gary Alexander and Travis Wilson.
Communications The following notes were read:
· Thank you note from Joan Sutherland for the lunches served at the beginning of school and at the in-service. Glad to have the opportunity to show the Lovington Librarian our facility. We are excited about future possibilities.
· Thank you from Darcy Singer for the opportunity to discuss curriculum and get to know the Lovington teachers. Lunch was terrific.
Public Comment
None.
Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Steffanie Seegmiller, to approve the minutes of the September 14, 2011 meeting. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Monica Miller, to approve the monthly bills as presented. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Beth Wiley, to approve the monthly Treasurers Report as presented. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
First Quarter Financial Report Superintendent Wilson reviewed the first quarter report. The receipts are 68.21% and expenditures 28.17%.
ELEMENTARY REPORT
Principal Condill discussed the following items in his report:

School
Improvement Day Friday, October 7
- Arthur and Lovington staff worked on aligning curriculum with the Common Core
Standards;
- Teachers met in grade level teams and addressed redundancies and gaps in their
lessons;
- Teachers used their curriculum maps and collaborated with their grade level
partners on new ideas and best practices.

Pre School
- Family Gathering was September 21 at the Great Pumpkin Patch;
- Special thanks to Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Nall, Mrs. Borkholder and Mrs. Whitaker
for organizing the event;
- Thanks to the Condill family for providing pumpkins and food items for the
gathering.

Arthur Fire
Department
- Thank you for providing fire trucks for 1st graders during
Homecoming Parade;
- Firemen will present a fire safety presentation to our 1st and 4th
grade classes on 10/14. They visited preschool last week.
·
Field Trips
- Pre School took a trip to Okaw Valley Orchard in September;
- 2nd graders went to EIU and Douglas Hart Nature Center;
- 4th graders visited their Home Buddies at the Arthur Home;
- 6th graders went to Walnut Point State Park;
- Kindergarten went to pumpkin patch.

Update
- Given initial benchmark assessments in reading and math for the school year,
now analyzing the data and getting students what they need;
- Examples of reports and assessments.

Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Steffanie Seegmiller, to authorize Travis Wilson to invest funds for the district. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Linda Collins, to approve the State Bank of Arthur, Arthur Community Bank, First National Bank of Arthur and Illinois Funds as authorized depositories. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Doug Kitchen, to transfer approximately $300,000.00 from Working Cash to the Education Fund. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Reorganization Discussion Excited about what we are doing for kids. Meetings are successful with a spirit of cooperation. Working on teaching assignments and development of schedules.
Board Comment
Monica Miller thanked Mr. Wilson for keeping them informed.
Closed Session Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Ed Miller, to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing employment of district personnel and teacher negotiations. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Steffanie Seegmiller, to return to open session. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Beth Wiley, to approve the minutes of the closed session meeting. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Steffanie Seegmiller, seconded by Linda Collins, to approve the 2011/2012 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Beth Wiley, to employ Rick Cohan as Assistant Junior High Boys Basketball Coach for the 2011/2012 school year. Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
