Arthur Board of Education

Regular Meeting – February 16, 2011

                   The regular meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Scott Daily at 7:00 p.m. in the Unit Office with the following members and administrators present:  Scott Daily, Doug Kitchen, Ronnie Cole, Linda Collins, Monica Miller, Buck Condill, Gary Alexander and Travis Wilson.  Mike Hilgenberg arrived at 7:25 p.m. and Steffanie Seegmiller was absent.

                   Communications – None.

Public Comment

                   Iris Dicks thanked the Board for all the work they have done on the annexation.

                   Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Linda Collins, to approve the minutes of the January 12, 2011 meeting.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Monica Miller, to approve the monthly bills as presented.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Monica Miller, seconded by Doug Kitchen, to approve the monthly Treasurer’s Report as presented.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

ELEMENTARY REPORT

                   Principal Condill discussed the following items in his report:

·         Kindergarten Pre-Registration for 2011-2012 Class – 28 signed up so far

·         Spelling Bee – Douglas County Bee – Feb. 23, 10 a.m. at Arcola

·         100’s Day – Celebrated January 28^th

·         ISAT’s – Week of February 28 thru March 4
 - Grades 3-6 are preparing for the tests

·         Calendar of Events:
 - February 17 – Dare parents meeting @ 6:00 p.m.
 - February 21 – No School
 - Feb. 22, 23, 24 – Preschool Screening
 - March 11 – End of 3^rd Quarter
 - March 14^th Week – Roller Skating
 - March 17 – Report Cards
 - March 18 – No School
 - March 24 – Open House/Book Fair/Wax Museum
 - April 15 – Progress Reports
 - April 21, 22, 25 – No School/Spring Break

SECONDARY REPORT

                   Principal Alexander discussed the following items in his report:

·         Activity Fund

·         Honor Roll
 - 33/70=47% Junior High for 2^nd quarter
 - 36/70=51% Junior High for 1^st Semester
 - 55/111=49% High School for 2^nd quarter
 - 60/111=54% High School for 1^st Semester

·         Congratulations to the A-L Lancers on a great season

·         Congratulations to 8^th Grade Volleyball – 2^nd in Conference

·         Congratulations to the 7^th and 8^th grade Boys basketball teams on a great year

·         Congratulations to Bradley Miller who will compete in the Douglas County Spelling Bee

·         Congratulations to High School Boys for placing 3^rd in the LOVC Conference Tournament

·         Thank you to Mrs. Renfro and Student Council for organizing winter follies (2/18)

·         FCCLA – Mrs. Jurgen’s and 17 students attending Leadership Conference

·         FFA Week – February 21-25
 - FFA will sponsor a badminton tournament

                   Superintendent Wilson discussed the following items in his report:

·         Quarterly Consolidated Communications Earning for Learning Check - $248.59
 - District will send a thank you note

·         Illini Spring Dinner – February 24, 2011 in Oakwood

·         Articles in Packet

·         ROE Compliance Report – District fully recognized

·         Discussion with Supt. Voyles on sales tax for facilities

·         Mr. Wilson distributed the IASB Constitution and Positions

BOARD COMMENT

                   Scott Daily appreciated all the help that was received for the HSBB basketball season – a good year.

                   Closed Session – Motion was made by Mike Hilgenberg, seconded by Linda Collins, to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing student discipline and employment of district employees.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Monica Miller, to return to open session.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Mike Hilgenberg, to approve the minutes of the closed session meeting.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Linda Collins, seconded by Monica Miller, to accept the resignation of David Cole as Assistant Track Coach.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Motion was made by Mike Hilgenberg, seconded by Monica Miller, to approve Administrator’s evaluations.  Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.

                   Meeting adjourned at 10:20 p.m.
